Can I get into these schools despite my lacking GPA and ECs?

Demographic: WA state, Asian/White male

Old SAT: Math - 680, Reading - 680 Writing - 660, Composite 2020
ACT: English - 28, Math - 29, Reading - 36, Science - 31, Writing - 8, Composite 31

UW GPA: Freshman -> Junior year = 3.56, Senior year is looking like around 3.8 or 3.9

ECs:

  • 2 year internship at local tech startup: software development, administering user tests etc...
  • NHS member
  • 3 years varsity tennis and 1 year JV
  • Volunteer teaching senior citizens how to use their technology
  • Volunteer at the local art museum as a docent

I think my strongest point here is probably my test scores and weakest is either my lack of ECs or GPA.

Applying to:

  • UW Seattle
  • UW Madison
  • UBC
  • UC Berkley
  • UCLA
  • UCSD
  • UI Urbana-Champaign
  • UMN Twin Cities
  • Western Washington U.

I feel like a lot of these are reach schools and the only safety school really is Western. Anyone have suggestions for safeties or match schools I can still apply to?

Also, I don’t know if this helps, but pretty much all of my family has attended University of Wisconsin schools, and my grandpa is even a retired professor who used to work in the UWisconsin system.

Thanks!

UC’s have a specific calculation for their GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Since you are OOS, only your AP/IB or DE courses count for the extra honors points in the calculation. Post you Uw UC GPA, Weighted Capped UC GPA and your Fully Weighted UC GPA. Your test scores are in range but on the low side for the UC’s on your list.

You should also be aware that the California UC’s do not give financial to OOS students. Expect to be full pay at $55K+/year to attend.

Oh thanks for the tip!

UC Unweighted GPA: 3.61
UC Weighted GPA: 3.67
UC Weighted and Capped GPA: 3.67

The UC’s would be all Reaches based on your UC GPA alone. Test scores, EC’s and essays will have an impact but the UC’s are very GPA focused.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%

Yeah that’s pretty much what I expected, thanks!
