Can I get into these schools?

I want to go to these schools for either Engineering:

  1. Stony Brook University
  2. Binghamton University
    3, University of Buffalo
  3. Rochester Institute of Tech.
  4. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
  5. University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
  6. University of Connecticut
  7. Steven’s Institute of Tech.
    9 Georgia Institute of Tech.
  8. Macaulay Honors City College Grove School
  9. Northeastern University

So here are my stats:

  1. GPA: 96 (unweighted); 100.3 (Weighted)
  2. SAT: 1870 (superscore) 680 math, 540 reading, 650 writing
  3. ACT: 27 (First time) Shooting for a 30 in October
  4. Clubs/societies: Robotics Club (Treasurer of FRC team)
    Science Honor Society
    Math Honor Society
    National Honor Society
  5. Outside Activities: Taekwondo (12 years) Third degree black belt and in Leadership Program
Community Service at Temple ( I serve food and drinks to all members of my Temple)
Free tutoring ( I believe that education should be for all; so I tutor for no charge)
  6. AP Classes:
Junior Year: AP English Language, AP United States History, AP Physics 1 and 2 [scored 94+ in each class]
Senior year: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC and rest are college level classes
  1. Ethinicity: I don't know how significant an ethnicity determines your chances f getting in a college, but I am Indian.
  2. What I want: I live in Nassau County, Long Island and I would like to dorm. I just want the best education for the best price. SUNY schools are good for value, but private schools will put more weight into resume when applying for a job; therefore, i am stuck However, Cuomo's STEM scholarship provides full SUNY tuition for science, math, technology. and engineering courses for top 10% students ( which I am in already). I would like a diverse community where I can make friends that i can hang out with. They should also be very relaxed and down-to-earth (chill). Please give your honest advice.

Michigan, Northeastern, RPI, GATech would be high reaches if not out of reach.

@TomSrOfBoston What would I need to get into RPI or GATech?

Well, you’d have to pay a good bit for GT…it’s an OOS public. That said, you’d need higher test scores. I don’t know if GT superscores…some publics don’t.

Have you had your parents run the Net Price Calculators? How much will your parents pay each year? That will likely determine where you should apply.

  1. Stony Brook University- match
  2. Binghamton University- match 3, University of Buffalo- safety
  3. Rochester Institute of Tech.- not sure
  4. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute- reach
  5. University of Michigan, Ann Arbor- mid reach
  6. University of Connecticut- match
  7. Steven's Institute of Tech.- match? 9 Georgia Institute of Tech.- reach
  8. Macaulay Honors City College Grove School- not sure
  9. Northeastern University- reach?

Don’t take my word for it though. And I think colleges are a little biased on certain ethnicities such as asians. Try to bump up your sat and act in order to be more competitive. Check out niche.com for colleges to see what kind of environment the colleges are like (student ratings and stuff).

UMich CoE would be a high reach. You should take it off the list. Your SAT score is a couple hundreds below the 25th percentile (4 points below 25th percentile for ACT) and the admission rate is at or below 20% for OOS.

Alright. Hopefully, I can get into most of the public in-state schools.
