Is it possible to get into the drama major at NYU without taking theater in high school? Just a bit of background I always wanted to be an actor as a kid. A teacher told me it was stupid so I abandoned that dream and decided I wanted to be a doctor. I focused my entire high school career taking harder science and math classes with going premed in mind. Over quarantine, I realized that I have always wanted to be an actor, so I am trying to backtrack the last five years and make it happen. Could I apply to Tische or should I apply under another major and try to double major if I get in?
Very difficult to “back door” into Tisch like this. My understanding is that in almost all cases (I think cinema studies is maybe an exception) you have to be accepted into Tisch first and then apply to double major in another school within NYU, you usually can’t enter as a major in another school and then do a second major in Tisch.
There is a specific forum on CC that deals with theater/drama http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/ , where you will probably get much better advice on how to approach this major with your background, at NYU and other schools. Good luck!
The above is correct. You would have to internally transfer. I’ve asked a counselor and you cannot go into CAS and declare a second major in another school. You could start there and hope to transfer but it’s just as difficult, if not more, to transfer to the most selective schools like Stern and Tisch.
