I'm dead set on applying to schools for drama, but while some schools you apply regularly without audition, some schools you have to pick theatre arts first. Im wondering (for example, applying to a school like NYU for which you have to pick a school in the university first) if I could apply twice. Once to Tisch, and once to any other school in the university. OR, it is possible to switch the school you get accepted into one?

At NYU, you must select one school and your admission decision is based on that single selection. The exception at NYU is that you are permitted to indicate on your application if you would be WILLING to be considered for a secondary program and I believe that would be the LSP. If you say yes, they will automatically consider you for that if you are not accepted to Tisch. However, I am not sure what the transfer situation is. You would still have to audition to Tisch as a transfer and you would begin your theatre classes as a freshman, although you would have some credits from whatever you took freshman year that could count towards the “other” credits the overall degree requires or perhaps towards a minor,
etc; However, Tisch has very specific course requirements so it would be a good idea to speak with someone in admissions to find out what that would mean for you in terms of overall length of time to earn the degree tuition -wise and time-wise.

You cannot transfer from LSP to Tisch. (Nor to Stern). It is also extremely rare if not just short of impossible for anyone to be able to move into CAS or Gallatin or any other path open to the LSP student before the 2 years of LSP are over.

I’m not 100 percent sure though now that if you say you’d be willing to consider placement other than Tisch that that would only mean LSP. I think it is possible you could be considered in other programs within the NYU umbrella now so if is that what you mean (and I don’t think it is, sounds like you want the drama track), you should ask about it. All of this is fairly new because until last year, if you applied to Tisch and didn’t get in, you were out of NYU entirely. I suspect it is still somewhat irrelevant for a student who is of the mindset that they want the BFA drama at Tisch. Chances are they will not consider anything else at NYU anyway.

Right, Halflokum makes a very important point about LSP being two years, and a transfer into Tisch would not work under that scenario. There are students who transfer into Tisch as sophomores ( again, not many) from other universities, but they do start as freshmen in their theatre /studio courses.
