I’m really stressing about getting into uc davis. :[
Alot of people at my school applied but only 25 got accepted.
Oh, and what can i do to help my chances of getting accepted?

I'm a junior. ----> No Honors or AP's ----> 3.5 GPA

huh?

Just my opinion, but I think you're in a bit of trouble not taking any APs. The UC system is moving to make UCD a flagship campus, and as such, will heighten both the rigor of the classes and the admission requirements. Not taking any APs might give them the message that you're not ready for challenging classes =/

Also, I don't see any SAT II scores up there. Have you taken any yet? Two are required for every UC.

To be completely honest... it might be a bit difficult for you O.O Because if you look in the UCD decisions thread, a lot of people with pretty decent SAT scores and GPAs got rejected. My friend, a 4.0+ student, got rejected with a 1900 SAT score and 8 APs today (which is REALLY weird), and another with an 3.8-ish got rejected as well with about the same SAT.

It will be hard. Your GPA and scores should be higher. Any majors in mind?
Also, make sure to take your SATIIs.

Hmm, I have a friend that applied during 2007, he got in with a 3.2 Average, no AP Or Honors, and his sat scores were on the shabby side. He also told me people on his floor avg around 3.3-3.6. Iunoo, My senior class president got in yesterday, but she's really smart lol. I actually know a number of people who got in and didn't have a gpa 3.8<, and got in, maybe they had really good essays.

Oh, and im taking another SAT during May. Studying over spring break.
Majors i'm thinking about: Mathematics, and Computer Engineering.

42k+ people applied last fall, 4.688k got in yesterday.

I got in straight out of high school with a 2.7 gpa. Average SAT scores and my essays weren't amazing I don't think.

Ya never know.

^^^ I thought the UC GPA cutoff was a 3.0?

I applied in 2006...it might have been raised since then? I'm not sure.

UC Davis has been my first choice since freshman year or even before freshman year. :[ I hope if i write a good essay they'll let me in

i had similar stats to you and i just got in for exercise biology
same gpa, my sats were 1930
act 32

lots of ec's and good essays though!
with a little luck you may get in too!

UCD doesn't use the essays for admisson. The only UC's that do are Cal and UCLA. Everywhere else scans for hard life situations and such. They don't judge the quality of the writing

Your GPA is low. Is there any way to raise it? D: UCD is very much a GPA-based school as far as acceptance goes, so I'd try to get that GPA up...

Otherwise, you're on par with the average UCD applicant who is accepted. :]

your sat is good i really dont know since you havent taken any aps but you are a first gen student … i think you have a good chance

I’m going to be honest - you don’t have a good chance of getting in. No AP’s, fairly low GPA, very limited extra curricular activities, no community service, etc.

I’ve had friends with MUCH better stats get rejected. Like, 2000+ SAT scores with AP classes and 100+ hours of volunteer time. Sure, there might be an occasional person who gets in with lower stats (for whatever reason - I’m not sure why). But don’t let anyone fool you - it’s really, really rare. Davis is a reach.

Have a backup plan. It’s unlikely you will get in. SAT scores are only one of many factors which determine whether you get in or not - and unfortunately, you aren’t very strong in any of the other criteria.

You would, however, have a good shot at some other UC’s (Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Riverside, Merced…) and all of the state schools.

LOL! I think I got in to UC Davis because of my personal statement. Because my SAT’s were in the 1500s and my GPA weighted is around 3.4.

Anyway tofusoup, the best advice I can give you is to make yourself stand out as an applicant. Yes, academics are imperative because it’s the reason why you’re going to college. But UCs really appreciates a diverse student demographic that’s involved in their community/school. SO work on your personal statement early and make sure you discuss a SPECIFIC topic. Don’t generalize and list struggles, rather discuss one specific experience or event in your life that made a difference to you.
