You’ve got an absolute boat load of extra curriculars, and the UC, more than most schools, is only caring about GPA and test scores (and yours look kinda middle of the road). You won’t even be able to put all those ECs in the app! not enough space; unless of course you start loading them into the personal statement, and I’m guessing they don’t look to keenly on that. Best thing is to emphasize the ECs that you’re passionate about and see if that will work. UCSD is now getting an absolute ton of apps probably because no one wants to be living/dying in L.A. and everything at Cal from housing to getting classes to walking down the sidewalk is such a struggle.
Regardless, take a shot if you’re looking for the beautiful live in S.D.

He didn’t say that.
He said (though I don’t know the extent to which this is accurate) that that is not what they’re most interested in. He has a point - this IS the UC system - and he also says that you won’t have enough space to mention everything you’ve done. It’s true that having an excess of ECs does not necessarily make up for the lack of a strong GPA or test scores, simply because this suggests that you did not know how to prioritize.
Now, despite having said all of this, I must beg to differ with his assessment. I personally think you have a fine chance at being accepted. Your GPA isn’t horrid, your SAT scores are at/above avg for scores submitted by high schoolers here, and, well, you do have a ton of ECs.
No, I am not contradicting myself (promise). I was merely pointing out a fallacy in your interpretation of my predecessor’s comment.
G’luck

This is a good link (below) for looking at your UC “chances”. Go to “Custom Tables”, answer a few questions, and enter up to 3 “mean characteristics” such as GPA, test scores, major, etc. I would say UCSD would still be considered a low reach with your stats, particularly if you are not in the top 4% as an ELC applicant.

Just my two cents but I got into UCSD for Fall 2010 with a 3.86 and probably around a 2030 SAT, 720 in bio and 700 in history. I didn’t have that much extracurriculars, just a lot of volunteer hours, a leadership program and secretary of a club. I got an AP scholar award but I don’t even know if that counts for jack. I am not first gen anything or low income. I did have the a-g 50(?)+ courses and ELC Top 4%. So I wouldn’t say you’re for sure in but that you do have a chance especially with your extracurriculars. So apply but have back up because anything can happen. I have friends that had better GPA than me and comparable SAT scores but went to more competitive schools and weren’t able to get ELC that didn’t get in. It’s not too predictable, especially if it’s getting more competitive.
