I'm a HS Sophomore, with currently terrible and horrible records. I want to go to a great university like UF but I don't think I can get in.

FRESHMAN YEAR- B's, A's(in electives), and 2 C's in Geometry. I did volunteering, but no clubs. Honors/Regular Classes mixed.

SOPHOMORE YEAR- I am taking 3 AP's, and working hard, and all honors. I have 1 bad bad class for failing the FCAT by 1 point, its a reading class, which makes me loose hope in everything. This Reading Class is the worst class I have.

JUNIOR/SENIOR YEAR- I plan to work hard, attain good grades/sat scores.

I dont know. That Int. Reading class will surely put me into trouble, along with those C's Freshman year, should I just give up?

Don’t give up lol, UF looks at everything holistically. If you look good overall, you give that image of a leader or innovator, they’ll want you. So keep working hard; MAKE SURE to get your class rank to top 10% at least. If you get it to top 5%, that’s excellent. Class rank is a big deal. When application time comes, write the best essay you possibly can, it is CRUCIAL. One or two mishaps on your application does not mean the end of everything, and that’s the beauty of holistic admissions. They look at you as an individual.

Plus, it’s just ONE class and 2 Cs…I had a friend who had to use grade forgiveness for a class and resorted to GPA fluffing for his rank and he got in.

Don’t forget dual enrollment is also important and very helpful (you don’t need it, but they are like “easy AP” classes)

Don’t give up, but you should work hard the next few years.

You have two more years to get your GPA and class rank up, and it’s phenomenal that you’ve already set a goal for yourself on the college you want to attend. Keep working towards the goal.

There is no way to say if you’re “guaranteed.” There’s people who’ve gotten into schools like Emory and Brown, with amazing SATs (2000s+) and they get rejected from UF. Admissions has somewhat of a randomness to them. Don’t rely only on your test score. Make sure to make yourself look good OVERALL as an individual. Try to look for some leadership opportunities/community service.

And by work hard, I myself mean, work hard at everything. Work hard in your classes that you take to constantly raise your rank to the highest possible, work hard on your extracurriculars, work hard on your essay when the time comes.

I hate to admit this, but I agree with the above poster. There is no guarantee, except for the following. I can assure you admissions into UFL if you score a 2400 on your SAT, you achieve a 5.0 weighed GPA after acing all your AP classes and your dad is Dean @ UFL. Other than what I have listed, there are no guarantees.

Greetings-
If you can maintain a weighed GPA of a 4.0 + and with your 2000 SAT, you should
Have no problem obtaining admission into the other Florida schools, possibly excluding UM.
Suggestion since you are a junior – Try your best to hit a 2100 on your SAT and try to kick up your GPA over 4.2 as this may help your parents financially with scholarship money. Good Luck!

@PeterAP: It’s a safe bet you’d get into them all with a 1900+. It’s hard to say if UM is more competitive or less competitive than UF, but I’d go ahead and say they are about the same.

Look into some out of state schools (and if money is a problem, look into OOS scholarships for OOS schools you like)

Well TC, a 1900 on your SAT is no guarantee, as it is about 60 points below average. A 2k+4.0 UF GPA or higher will net you around a 77% Acceptance rate. According to the UF Freshman profile, 81.2% of applicants with a 4.0 UF GPA were accepted, and 72.4% with a 1950-2090 were accepted.

That’s just academics. Throw in some kickers like an officer position or two, some AP classes, and an essay that really says “I want to go here,” you shouldn’t be too worried.

UM:

UM’s admissions process is completely different. UF has a “unique” admissions process that many debase for it’s randomness. UM, on the other hand, has a more “standard” college admissions procedure. They accept recommendations where UF does not. They take numbers into heavier account: Such as GPA (NOT reweighted-it’s the GPA straight from your school), Class Rank, and SAT Scores (on a 1600 scale, NOT 2400).

UF’s essay can be the decision between acceptance and rejection if you’re truly borderline. UM-Common App with a lesser valued essay. UM also allows takes the interview, should you choose to sign up for one, into account.
