I want to know if I have a chance at UF. I seriously feel like I will never go there (or even any good college). UF is my dream school. I will give a little overview of my academic records from freshmen to now (junior year).

Freshmen: I got all regular class (because I go to private school and they are REALLY picky about students taking harder classes). I got As in them and also received academic awards.

Sophomore: My guidance counselor bumped me up to taking all honors classes. And I was a little rocky in my grades. Mostly B’s and around 2-3 A’s each semester. I do ballet and I went to class almost every day for long hours that year and got very serious about it. My GPA did go down a bit. And I did not receive any academic awards.

Junior (now): I planned to take an AP class for this year, but the school didn’t let me so I am still taking all honors. I cut some of my ballet out and I now have around a 3.8 GPA. I also got accepted into 2 honors societies and I am in 4 clubs. (And I still do ballet, but not as much as soph. year).

Each year I progressed and improved and I know that UF does look for students who improve throughout the years. BUT I haven’t taken any AP classes For senior year I plan to take AP classes and join 2 more honors societies.
Probably not good enough for UF right? ._.

Get straight A’s for the rest of high school and get a lot of volunteer hours this summer. You seem to have a good chance.

Keep in mind that UF wants you to take the most rigorous classes available at your school. If your school limits the number of AP’s that you (and other students) can take, UF will NOT hold it against you.

You’ll want to get your academics into the middle 50% to be a match (academically). If you can get your weighted GPA (by the end of your junior year) up to a 4.0 to 4.1, you should be OK.

Otherwise your EC’s look fine.

Good Luck!

There are rigorous classes available at my school, but in order to take those (or any AP class) you must meet the school’s “requirements.” To take AP Environmental (at my school) you need a strong A in science and at least a B in math. (I had those) But you also need a high reading score on the PSAT and I didn’t have that. That’s why I couldn’t take that AP this year. I talked to some guidance counselors and they said they declined over 200 students at my school who wanted to take an AP class. Kinda crazy. Does UF know my school does that?

Thank you so much for your help. Oh and by the way I mentioned my GPA as 3.8, that is unweighted.

If it’s a local HS in Florida, UF will be familiar with it. The GC’s will also provide info to UF so they can determine “class rigor”. All honors and a few AP’s are fine, and if your unweighted GPA is a 3.8, you’re doing great. :)

Just keep it up (grades and ECs)! If you haven’t already, try to do an official tour of UF, they do take “interest” into account (though it’s not nearly as important as all of the other factors we listed above).

Good Luck!
