Can i get into UT austin?

Hi I’m a white female trying to figure out my chances of getting into UT Austin

  • I am ranked 34/538, meaning that I am 6.3% therefore out of the top 6% requirement for 2019 seniors
  • GPA is 98.2%
  • 30 ACT score but working to get it up a couple points
  • I am varsity cheer captain, VP of NHS, President of SNHS and Spanish Club, and am involved in Student council, junior world affairs council, a school-oriented service league and Young Life
  • Outisde of school I am in Girl scouts and National charity League doing about 250+ hours in my high school life
  • I have worked the past two summers as a lifeguard
  • 4 on following AP tests: Human Geo., World History and I’m not sure about Junior year yet but confident I got a 4 or higher in US History, Psychology, and English and hopefully passed Spanish
-Will do a marketing/Pr related internship during Spring semester
  • I hope to write a good essay, but
honestly I have nothing super exciting or life-changing that has occurred to me or endured significant hardships so I can not rely much on that

Please also comment any other matches… also looking at unc chapel hill and smu

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are decent. Try getting a 32+ on the ACT. Write great essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

Are in state?

Yes

UT admits students based on two scores: academic and achievement. Academic takes into account your ranking and your ACT. Your ranking is super strong since it is so close to the cut off so I would work on raising your ACT to a 32+. Honestly self prep yourself, if you want me to send you how I self prepped I can, and take every ACT from now to December because you can still submit new scores after you apply. The achievement score takes into account leadership, hardship, community service, application to major, essays, resume etc. You have a super good resume so I would assume that your score will be pretty high. If I could give you one piece of advice it would be to create a application that works cohesively. This means apply to a major that you have shown previous passion in and write essays that elaborate on this passion. UT looks for decisiveness and passion towards a future career path. Furthermore, essays are extremely important. UT admissions is “holistic” mean that they heavily consider every piece and the essays are your only oppurtunity to show who you are. It’s also perfectly okay to not have a hard ship or anything life changing. One of my friends who was admitted wrote about her love for dance and another simply wrote about childhood memories.

THANks for all the info! Sorry if you could clarify- so even after I apply using ApplyTexas by the priority deadline(Nov 1st) if I was to take the October ACT whose scores come out after Nov 1st, can I still submit to ut austin and qualify as priority deadline?

@jackl123 ^^

May I ask what your intended major is? Some schools are harder to get into than others (like Cockrell or McCombs vs Moody or COLA). I have some friends who had similar stats and were admitted. Try to up that ACT and make sure the rest of your application is stellar, especially your essays. Best of luck!

I think if you improve your standardized testing scores by a little and write an impressive essay you have a good chance of being admitted. Good luck!

marketing @freshmesh167 now have a 32 act and posted an updated thread since I can’t edit this one
