Can I have too many credits from a CC to transfer to a 4 year university?

Hi, I’m currently enrolled in an IL CC (College of Dupage) and working towards an associates. It is somewhat of a goal of mine to transfer to UIUC. UIUC and other 4 years universities offer transfer opportunities to juniors. Juniors are classified as 60-89 credits. When I’m done with my associates, IAI GECC (Transferable IL Gen Credits), and UIUC major requirements, I will have a total of credits much more than 89. My question is, can I still transfer at a junior level with more than 89 credits from a CC?

I don’t think so, but you had better confirm that with UIUC. I know that some colleges definitely won’t let you transfer in with more credits than they stipulate.

I was actually just reading about this last night. One Illinois school said no more than 74 hours. I don’t know if that means over 74 and you can’t at all or if 74 is the max credits they will accept.

Check with the specific school. Most school may set a limit on transferable credits or minimal credits to be taken in the school after transfer (or minimal number of enrolled semesters) for graduation. So for some school, you will waste some CC credits (or have extra credits over graduation requirement at the end).
