I recently took my ACT's for the first time and I got a 28.
I'm not really familiar with the ACT and what is considered a "good score," but I've heard a 28 is pretty good, but I'm applying to competative colleges so I would definately like to improve.
I'm shooting for a 31/32, is it possible for me to improve that much?
and my subscores were:
math 26
reading 34
writing 30
science reasoning 23 (weak spot!)

A 28 is in the 92nd percentile of the nation, so it's a great score. =]

It is more than possible to improve that much. Most test takers (around 50%) improve at least one to two points their second go around, and I wouldn't doubt that it just has to do with getting used to the test and the test format. However, some don't, and some decrease. If you study, or if you just feel more confident, I think you could. =] It's definitely within your reach, that's for sure.

You can easily meet your goal. The first time I took the ACT I got a 28, just like you, and the second time I took it I got a 31. That was without much studying, so I think you could surpass your goal if you really worked at it.

i went from a 31 to a 34

when i got the 34 i felt a lot more comfortable with the test and had gotten a good nights sleep.
plus, science improves alot once you know how to answer the questions

im assuming you are retaking the ACT in sept. meaning you have many months to review on the subjects that you need a little help in. Math and science from the looks of it really aren't hard but one can familiarize themselves with those topics by doing practice tests from the red book.

Honestly it's just the science section that gives me a lot of trouble. I know I can improve my math a little, but the I take practice science tests over and over and I never get above a measly 25. I can't grasp it. Does anyone have tips for that particular section?
