Can I include a 2 month stay in Europe under extracurriculars on college apps?

I spent my whole summer before junior year in Poland living with my family. We went on a few trips here and there; salt mine, Auschwitz, spent a week up north by the Baltic Sea...

I also went on a 10 day trip to Italy. Even though a lot of it was spent lounging in the sun and going out at night, I went on day trips to Rome, Venice, and old Rimini. I stayed in Rimini, and old Rimini is the historic area of the town including the Arch of Augustus and Bridge of Tiberius, both ancient sights.

Everything was with a tour guide and I learned a lot! I don't want it to seem like I "wasted" my whole summer on vacation instead of discovering a cure for cancer or something of the like to write on college apps. ;)

ECs are usually school, work (paid or unpaid ), or volunteer activities. If you can somehow tie it to what you did, then go for it. But just going to some foreign countries and touring would probably not be considered EC’s. It does however make you a more rounded and interesting person.

I’m sure you did a lot of other EC things in your high school career.

If you can’t find a place for it on the application – it probably gives a good essay topic.

i did a similar thing and am including it in my essay
