answers please :)

Do you homeschool?

If not, are you taking a class from your guidance counselor?

Either way, I would suggest getting a LOR from another source. We homeschool and I did all the supporting documents, so I am listed as the gc. My h, who has a double major in French and accounting, did a LOR as her French teacher. But she also has two LORs from outside teachers (online classes), as well as her dance teacher.

The bottom line is the adcoms want to get as true and full a picture of you as they can get. Using the same person for two recs won’t add to that picture.

hmmmm

I wasn’t homeschooled and our school does have a separate uni counselor
the only reason(s) why I don’t want my counselor to give me anything from grades to recommendation is because

(1) I dont like her
(2) because she went on a vacation
(3) without sending my uni stuff
(4) and we dont even know if she’s coming back during the spring term

I had to drag a very tired teacher out to school a day after christmas to send in my first application on time :/

btw, do counselors have to write a recommendation to? :S

You can’t choose if your guidance counselor writes you a rec or not. It’s REQUIRED by almost all colleges.

so the counselors already have a section to enter the recs on common app or what??

gawd, this is stupid, but our principle wants to write me a rec
can I pleaassse have her as the counselor if I can ask her???
…or atleast any other teacher whose NOT the counselor :(

Why are you begging us? We have no control over what your college accepts; you really, really should call the college because each college has a different requirement. I’ve applied to colleges that didn’t require either a teacher or a counselor recommendation, ones that required both, and ones that would take only the counselor recommendation or the teacher recommendation. Each college is different and has different standards and there’s no way anyone on here can figure out what your college does when we don’t even know its name.

one last question please :/

“do counselors already have a section to enter their own recs on common app?”

yes they do have their own section. if you go under the school forms section in the common app you can send a recommendation request to your counselor under the counselor section

Yes, you need a counselor. And I’m also pretty sure that if your principal filled in your counselor rec instead of your counselor, everything would go over fine, especially if he explained that your counselor was on vacation and couldn’t do it or whatnot.
