Curious MOM wants to start the organization process of a very smart daughter with lousy practical organizational skills for her new room (or maybe just a slob)
any suggestions....I saw some designer website for college rooms but nothing came up for the davenport. I didn't see any rooms when I was there so if I should just be patient ...let me know

Which hall do Davenport Frosh live in Old Campus? Find that and you might get floor plans. Also, trawl the Yale Parents thread – some stuff in there about items to bring, items to buy when in New Haven and items not needed.

Best of luck to you – my oldest isn’t college age yet but the thought of me and my wife having to help her organize a college room sounds daunting!

Welch Hall, I couldn’t find a floor plan. I know that some of them are the 2 story ‘princess suites’, D1 was a froco there a year ago.

OP’s question suggests that the poster thinks her daughter will be moving into Davenport itself, rather than going to Old Campus for freshman year.

OP: how does your daughter know that she’ll be in Davenport rather than one of the other residential colleges? have assignments to residential colleges already been made?

I don’t think you can be certain of the Old Campus dorm assignment by residential college either. Calhoun used to be in Welch, now its in Bingham, could be somewhere else 2012-13.

The rooms vary too much in size and furniture for any investigation without the actual assigned room number. DS had no desk storage while roomate did. Another roomate got the single and had an armoire but no closet. You get the idea. Best advice is to move in with access to your own or a rental car and go over to Ikea or BBB to get stuff for the room.

Suggest you wait till she knows who her roommates are -it’s nice to coordinate a bit and to make sure you aren’t duplicating or clashing.

Good point, they usually come out sometime in the summer, and we’d definitely hear about it here. However, perhaps the OPs kids is a legacy and knows it will be Dport.

Ok, I will take care of it when we hear back and go up. Haven’t heard anything, don’t know for sure if it will be davenport, not a legacy and love the idea of matching bedspreads!

I don’t think the class of 2016 has their RC assignments–so yes I would guess only by legacey…and if not by legacey than its a 1/12 chance ;)

OP
fwiw…I scoured the net to find floor plans of the old campus bldg where k1 was assigned…AND…the actual rooms were different as the bldg renovation had removed closets etc and the kids had wardrobes etc.
All that is to say that floor plans might lead you astray.
In our case k1 had not selected anything that was a big deal to go back. The only items I took back were 2 tension rods for drapery panels, 2 sets of panels, and an over the door coat rack as the Old Campus dorms Doors were heavy wooden doors and a regular over the door rack wouldn’t fit. We used BB&B pack ship which was great and made one trip to the Walmart.
Less is more and the kids will want to work this out themselves when they get matched up. So as far as shopping the sales/thinking ahead, things like a mattress pad are easiest to put on the list and less likely to offend to roommate coordination :)

Good luck and welcome to Yale

If you do a search for davenport in this thread you’ll find a floor plan…I did but it was for a boys suite

The subject of this threat is absolutely fantastic!
love the idea of matching bedspreads! this is so cool… Both my brother and I went to HYPS colleges and grad schools and neither one of us can remember a single designer dorm room. That was a while ago.
Havent lived in the States for the past twenty odd years and probably not on top of things.

Agree that you should wait…the room sizes vary quite a bit. S was in Farnum freshman year and had a tiny single. A friend’s daughter was in Vanderbilt in a double that seemed almost as small as my son’s single, though their common room was huge. If you’ll have a car, both Target and IKEA are not far. I’d just go then and buy what you need after seeing the size of the room. Good luck and welcome to Yale!

I concur that you should wait. My son was in Vanderbilt as well last year and there was barely enough room in his suite for two beds. The common room was huge and the boys coordinated over the summer who was going to bring what (chairs, refrigerator, iron etc). In the end, they went to the Salvation Army, that is one block away, and everyone chipped in for an 8 foot couch that was $70: [274 crown street new haven ct - Google Maps](<a href=“Google Maps”>Google Maps)
