I am currently enrolled in Biology Honors. Next year I should take Earth Science Regents but can I take ESR in eleventh grade instead and do Chemistry Honors in tenth? Thanks to you all!
That’s a school-specific question; you need to ask your GC. NYS doesn’t care when you fulfill your grad requirements.
Ok thank you! So it only pertains under what my school decides? @skieurope
I can’t imagine your school would allow it. Many schools would consider it part of the course requirement to pass the class.
That’s a good point @mom2twogirls Do you mean you’d have to take Earth Science first to understand the knowledge, and have the ESR background in order to be successful in Chemistry Honors class?
Most honors students in the US follow a bio->chem->physics sequence, so no, ESR is not needed for chem. However, for whatever reason, NYS schools have ESR as a standard part of the HS science curriculum. Again, you just need to ask your school. Users here will tell you what their school would say, but that may not apply to you.
Thank you very much @skieurope
Oh wait. I must have misunderstood completely what you were asking. I thought you wanted to take the regents exam a year after the class. Rereading it, that isn’t what you meant. Sorry.
As skieurope said, earth science is not required in NY. There are kids who skip it in my district. Most 9th graders here take it, I think at least parts of Long Island take it in 10th grade. In our district at least, it is apparently an easier science class than the others so those who skip it tend to be sciencey kids who would be bored taking it in 11th grade or later. After bio, Chem and physics, those kids are taking AP bio and Chem.
Sorry again for misunderstanding the original question.
Thats okay @mom2twogirls They do require it at my school, I am not sure as when I should I take it, but I would like to wait to take ESR to until 11th
