I go to a state school in california, and I got ok grades, not only that, but I also got in some trouble with the school and now i might get suspended next year. I was wondering if i can just stop attending the school I'm at now and start all over again in a community college, as if I took a year off.

The community colleges are open admission… but if you want to transfer some place to complete a bachelor’s degree, your previous college record will have to be shown.

Try to make things square with the college you are going to now. You may do better just to ride out the suspension because it will be on your record whenever you go to a 4 year again you have to submit all transcripts and they check the Student Clearinghouse so you will not be admitted if you lie on your application and omit any college.

Also, if you just “stop attending” you will still need to pay for the classes you did not finish. Talk to them about withdrawing so you don’t get hit with additional fees.

You can’t pretend that you never attended this school, which it sounds like you are asking about. As mentioned earlier, future colleges will easily find out about your attendance. You can be rescinded for not disclosing it since every college app requires you to list ALL previous colleges attended, not just the ones you want to tell them about. Furthermore there is often a clause requiring you to be in good standing with all prior colleges (part of the reason they check to see if kids “forget” to mention a college).

If you are facing a year-long suspension you are not in a good way. But at 19, your life is far from ruined. Rather than trying to hide from it, time to show some maturity and face up to the situation. Talk with the administrators at your college to see what you can do if you get suspended to keep making progress in your education and to gain readmittance.
