Can I still get into a good college as a B student with hard classes?

I attend a competitive academic-focused high school. Our courses are a lot more difficult than the average public high school, and unfortunately for me, I am a straight Bs student. I don’t have the best GPA, it’s around 3.2-3.3. Although I study for hours and get help from tutoring, I just can’t seem to become a straight A student and I’m afraid I won’t get into any good colleges because of this. I don’t need to get into an Ivy or a highly selective college, I just need to get into a pretty good one. Do colleges take into the fact that I’m attending a harder school? What about other students in my school who easily get As? At this point I feel like it might be better to transfer to another high school where the classes are easier and it will help me get straight As. Any advice?

What grade are you in? How do you define “good school” ? BTW, are you in AP/honors?
Say I am in NJ, and if you are in a magnet school and with a high ACT (say 34+), Depends on your major, I assume you will be able to get into Rutgers which I think is a pretty “good school”.

Most admissions officers know about the difficult high schools. Personally we’ve been told, by a few admissions representatives, that “a B in your school would most likely be an A in other high schools in your city”. That being said, my kids attend a high school nationally ranked in the Washington Post.

If you like the school, you should stay. Be sure to prep for the ACT and/or SAT. I’m sure you’ll get into a “pretty good” college.

If you hate school because it is too hard, or have no friends, etc., maybe you should look at transfer options. Maybe a slower-paced curriculum would suit you better.

I think that I am with @BasicOhioParent. If you are happy where you are, then keep working hard and try to pull off a few A’s among your many B’s. If you feel stressed out or seriously sleep deprived, then you would probably be better off transferring to a less stressful and demanding high school.

Can really depend on other factors like your ACT or SAT: Some schools are more GPA focused and some are more scores focused.

There are so many amazing schools. You will find a fit.

Naviance will give you the best look at how you rank against others at your school. Also, not all schools are stuck on the perfect gpa. What schools are you interested in?

My S was admitted to 7 great schools with a 3.5 gpa. He is also at a very high ranked HS.
