I am taking 4 AP classes this year and one of them is AP Government which I am sure I'm going to end up with a D. Since the class is only 1 semester, that's pretty much my final grade. I was just wondering if this will hurt my chances of getting into csu's such as cal poly pomona, san jose state, or cal state long beach. If I do in fact get a D, I was planning on retaking it with a different teacher next semester, but I would then have to remove one of my elective courses and the whole thing would be a mess. Any suggestions or help?

I can only speak from a friend’s experience. He got a D senior year in Calc (which he didn’t have to take) and San Diego State rescinded his admittance. Period :(

Cal state schools seem pretty cut & dried: no grade less than a C in a-g courses acceptable…

If I were you, I would drop the class (if you can make it disappear completely) and see if you can retake it next semester to do better. Although it might be messy, I would do everything you can to not have a D show up on your transcript. There are several kids at my school with D’s in calc, and I believe that is what they were told. Not to freak you out, but I have a story similar to KetterMom’s, so it looks like they are pretty strict regarding grades :(

Oh man. Ok thanks for the responses. I’m also wondering if I do retake the class and I do get an A in it, will the D still show up on my transcripts?

Best to ask your high school counselor how repeat/delete works at your school and how it shows on transcripts.

Here’s what Long Beach says
It does seem there is some wiggle room here; you can still be eligible for admission if you didn’t get a C or higher, but as KeeterMom says they may rescind anyway.

You probably need more advice than you can get on a forum. You should talk with your counselor or admissions at the schools you’ve applied to. For example if you drop the class and retake it then you have a good grade in it, but you didn’t complete all the classes you listed in your application since you’ve said it will mean you can’t take an elective next semester. Not completing all the classes you listed can also be grounds for being rescinded.

dude your slackin off and goofin off during class might have costed you admission to cal state. welcome to community college. my advice, work harder, or drop it!!!
