Can I still get into colleges without SAT Subject scores?

So, long story short, I had some problems at home and never ended up taking my SAT subject tests. At the end of the day, it’s my fault and I should have been on top of it. I want to apply to schools like UPenn, Rice, and Hopkins, but all their websites state that SAT subject scores are recommended. (we all know what that means) I feel like I essentially cut my college options in half by not taking the SAT subjects. On top of that, I only received a 1400 on my SAT I, which is not very strong. Should I let the SAT Subject tests bother me, or will It not be too big of a deal to the colleges? Thank you for your help

What’s done is done (or, perhaps what’s not done is not done). You’ve got to just move on. In the greater scheme of things, SAT Subject tests are less important than other factors…Move on. You already know those schools are a crap shoot. Apply anyway – with the strongest essays you can – and hope for the best. Just make sure you have some safeties and matches.

Some school ask for SAT with Subject tests, OR ACT with writing. My children only took the ACT with writing (the SAT was not common where we lived).

Can your parents afford all the extra application fees? Your lack of SAT subject scores will be a problem if you are an unhooked student with no exceptional mitigating circumstances. Your score of 1400 is below the 25th percentile for all of those schools. In all honesty, I can’t see any of those schools happening for you. Maybe apply to one, just as a “you never know.” As a parent, I wouldn’t be terribly happy about the expense, and even worse, the strong possibility of three extra rejections, which can be pretty demoralizing. No parent wants to see their child unhappy about being rejected.
