Since California is 3 hours back in my timezone(EST), do I have until 2:59AM EST to submit my common app or do I have to submit by 11:59PM my timezone?
Yeah that is the thing that is confusing me because https://appsupport.commonapp.org/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=35&hitOffset=&docID=1479
“The application deadline is at 11:59 PM of the stated deadline date. The deadline time is either your local time zone or the school’s time zone, whichever is later.”
Either one of them haven’t been updated or “school’s time zone” means my high school’s timezone?
Well, that’s very confusing. I think you’re right that one part of the site hasn’t been updated. At this point it is already past 11:59 EST, so definitely get the application in before 11:59 Pacific time and hope for the best.
(“school’s time zone” refers to the college, not your high school.)
@ready4college78 you also might want to check the websites of the California colleges you are applying to. Loyola Marymount, for example, has extended their deadline to Monday Jan 18, 11:59:59 PST.

Why do you all wait till, quite literally, the last minute?
ready4college78 a misnomer? hahah. good luck to you
Well I ended submitting my apps at 2:25 AM EST. I only applied to schools in California. It shouldn’t be late right?
When we did D’s applications last year, we did a bunch that she was not as anxious about at the last minute and we did the mid western ones last because we literally had the extra hour, we are in EST. So I think you are fine.
Also, I really do not think top colleges care about when as long as it is by their deadline (and sometimes past it but I would not count on that). My niece forgot to submit the supplement to one of her colleges and did not realize it until a week later. It was a #30 college and was the best school she got into (she was below their 50th% with no hooks). Her sister got into a HYPS, applying at 11:00 on the day of the deadline. She was deferred and rejected from her other HYPS that she applied SCEA. Go figure.
Why put yourself in this position? If you wait this long, even the smallest of computer issues of common app issues could stop you from being able to submit your app.
Procrastination… I wasn’t able to finish my apps in time so I really needed the extra hours.
I learned my lesson and I will be more careful next time.
I was also going to apply to Drexel but it was a safety so meh. I don’t want to risk $50 since philly is EST so I was definitely late. I did waste $12 since I sent my SAT scores to them but oh well.
If Drexel is a safety for you they will probably let you apply, if you are interested I would do it.
Well I didn’t submit my app to them yet and the deadline was Jan 15. Can I still submit my app right now? Tbh, Drexel is like 9th in my list of colleges that I want to go to(70k per year is crazy) so I don’t know if I should risk $50. Is it worth it?
That is a question only you can answer. How many other safety schools did you apply, would you pay full boat? How important is the $50 to you. How likely are you to get merit money from them, how much did similar people to you get in the past not based on need. What does the financial aid calculator show and do they meet full need. Have you been accepted any place yet? Would you go to that place over Drexel? How realistic are the other places you applied. Will the common application even let you process the application now, only way is to try it? I think so but it has been awhile since D applied.
From my point more applications is better but that is not everyone’s.
Can you afford CA schools? Unless you’re applying to a private college, I think they’re pretty expensive. Make sure you have financial safeties on your list.
Yeah, all of the CA schools that I applied to are private schools. I did apply to my public state schools as safeties.
