Can I take a summer class prior to transfer this fall?

Hello my CC friends...
I want to take a class at my college this summer before I transfer to a UC in the fall..
But!!! I didn't put it on the summer schedule in UC Application...and the Transfer update deadline is already gone....now the UCs don't know I might be taking a summer class. What should I do? Can I still take it? Or should I just give up my thoughts?

I was thinking the same thing.

I hope someone answers this because I too was wondering if I could take a summer class. I’m sure you CAN still take one but you may just have to E-mail the school(s) you are planning on transferring to and let them know. This however is just my best guess.

yes. but you were suppose to tell them in the TAU

I can answer this…sort of.

I will be missing my 2nd calc class for transfer and I’m planning to take it over the summer. I put it as planned but I made a note in the TAU that it may not be offered at my CC (I’m expecting it not to be offered because my CC is cutting classes like crazy).

When I asked UC Davis and UCSD, they both told me I could take it over the summer at my CC or at their campus. I know that Berkeley allows you to take courses at their campus prior to the Fall. In fact, sometimes they require you to (like in econ)

[Transfer Course List | Berkeley Summer Sessions](http://summer.berkeley.edu/special-programs/transfer-session/transfer-course-list)

You could try emailing them but I don’t think it will have an affect on the decision but I don’t know.

It’s fairly common for incoming transfers to take courses in summer, whether at a CC or another institution. So yes, you should be able to do so without any issues. When you’re officially enrolled, which isn’t until Fall then to take a course outside of your UC you may have to fill out a petition and have it approved. However, as an incoming transfer you won’t be enrolled at your UC just yet and the UC’s aren’t going to penalize you for completing extra courses prior to enrolling. Obviously, the only issue is if you were trying to use a summer course to satisfy one of your requirements during the application process, which I’m guessing everyone already knows. But taking an extra courses after you’ve been accepted and before you enroll isn’t an issue. You’ll just want to send in your transcripts as soon as possible so that you can get credit for it and if you need it as a pre-req for anything at your UC.

Yeah…I am thinking about taking calc 2 again as well.
But summer school is really intense><!!

@dilapidatedmind

Wow thank you for the response!!!
Yeah, I am thinking about taking a pre-req (calculus 2)…
If I pass calc 2 this semester, I am thinking about taking a humanities course instead…

You’re thinking about retaking a pre-req that you’re not going to finish in spring? That’s a completely different story because you’ll likely be admitted on the assumption that you’ll complete all of your spring courses. You can’t make up something you failed/withdrew from in spring, in the summer. I just meant generally if you had a pre-req or another class that you didn’t have time to take and the UC’s already accepted you without having completed it. You won’t get penalized for completing extra courses, but not finishing one and trying to retake it in summer is a different situation completely.

What will happen is you’ll be admitted with a provisional contract that will tell you that in order for their acceptance to be valid you have to maintain a certain overall GPA and that you’ll have to achieve certain grades and term GPA in your current courses for spring. If you fail or withdraw from that you’ve already broken the contract and they’ll likely rescind your admission offer. They also, are not likely to be lenient and allow you to make up a class you’ve demonstrated you struggled with and couldn’t finish in the spring. So if you can make sure you pass Calc 2, even if it’s with a C. And then if you want take that humanities class in the summer.
