Hey guys, I’m new to this site so sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.
But anyways, the question is in the title. I will be in my senior year next year and I am currently taking PreCalc, but I really want to take BC, so is there a way that I can do this without taking AB? Or can I take both? Or take AB during the summer or something? Any help will be appreciated.
AP Calculus AB = Calculus I and
AP Calculus BC = Calculus I and II,
at least as far as the exams. That means you should be able to take AB without taking BC first, because the BC class should cover everything in the AB class in addition to some other stuff. However, I would recommend asking your guidance counselor because some high schools set up their classes so that AB = Calculus I and BC = Calculus II. In a case like that, you would want to take AB before taking BC.
I will ask my counselor, but I’m pretty sure in my school BC is considered Calculus II, so will it be possible for me to somehow take them together? I’m thinking of a CS major in college, I’m taking AP CS currently. I really want to take Calc BC because I hear it is a really good class to take and also very impressive. I am, again, willing to take AB over the summer if people are allowed to take AP classes in the summer.
Calculus BC includes all of Calculus AB and additional topics, so AB should not be a prerequisite for BC.

You need to ask your counselor if at your school AB and BC are seen as two levels of the same course, with AB slower-paced and covering less information, or as two levels in the sequence, with AB one year and BC (not reviewing what’s been studied in AB) the second year.
If the latter, then you can’t skip AB. If the former, the BC class is designed to incorporate both AB and BC and thus doesn’t require AB beforehand.
Take BC, it covers Calc I and Calc II in a year, so you won’t have to devote 2 years on it.
If your school makes u take AB first you could self study for the BC exam
It varies by school.
Calc BC is equivalent to Calc I and II at some schools, but at other schools it’s equivalent to Calc II only.
Talk to a teacher or guidance counselor or even just check out your school’s website to find out which applies to your school.
That only works if the school has set up the class that way. Some schools that offer BC teach both AB and BC topics in the course, while others just teach the BC topics (requiring AB as a prerequisite). OP needs to check with the math department at his/her school.
At my school you have to take honors pre calc to take bc, and regular pre calc to take ab. In honors precalc, you cover the “a” part of calculus
