AP CALC BC before AP CALC AB?

I was wondering whether collegeboard allows test takers to the Calc BC test before the Calc AB test.

I just found out that they can't be taken in the same year and I was planning on doing that.

It is unnecessary to take the AP Calculus AB exam after you have already taken the AP Calculus BC exam. AB topics comprise approximately 60% of the BC material. Furthermore, you will receive an AB sub-score if you take the BC exam.

What QuixoticParadigm said.

Further, taking the AP Calculus AB test is not a prerequisite for taking the AP Calculus BC test. If you're ready to take the AP Calculus BC test, you can simply take that.

If you can take the Calculus BC exam without taking the AB exam, I would encourage that choice because then you won't have to take 2 exams because the BC exam will give you an AB sub-score which is considered the same as taking the AB exam.

there's no point of taking AB imo
just take BC. you'll end up getting an ab subscore and it's a more rigorous class

I am sure all choose just one. There aren't "prerequisites" in AP exams.

In some schools, only one of the tests is offered so you may be stuck with that. Most colleges will grant credit or placement for both exams, but usually more for the BC exam. If you're worried about credit, then take BC.

Yeah...my school has this weird limit on the number of AP classes that a student can take...and AP CALC AB class happened to be a prerequisite to taking the AP CALC BC class...I think I'll give CALC BC a try before I take the CALC AB exam.
Thanks guys! :)

The way some schools run it, when the BC class follows the AB class, the BC class is really an add-on to the AB class: they cover the few extra chapters in BC, and then they move on to some post-BC material, and then go back and review for the BC exam a bit just before May. That might be why your school has the prerequisites for the classes.
