A certain CC near me allows me to take Chem 1A/1B without any pre-req Chem class or assessment, all I need is Intermediate Algebra (passed that a while ago). The problem is that I don’t think I can squeeze in a Chem class for this upcoming semester, and I plan on applying to UCs this fall. Is it okay if I take 1A this Spring then 1B the summer semester before transferring? Mind you the Chem series is important for me because I am a CS major and apart from this and my other CS classes I only plan on not having 1 pre-req if I do transfer after this upcoming year.
You’ll be competing for a spot in a highly selective major, with applicants who HAVE completed the chem prereqs by the spring. If I were you, I’d make myself just as competitive as them and take it before summer.
@Happy2Help Yeah I hear what you’re saying man, the issue is that it would be really hard for me to take it in the Fall with an actual good instructor you know, but sometimes we don’t have the luxury. I just didn’t know if you could let UCs know you have the intent to complete the series before actually transferring to the campus.
When you apply, you’ll be entering your fall schedule and projected schedule for spring. Then in January, you’ll have to enter an update of your fall grades and spring schedule. Come April, when you get your acceptances, you’ll have to report any change to your spring schedule. Also you’ll receive a contract for admission (ie maintain gpa, etc). You’re entering your intended schedule at least twice.
I see, thanks for the info I appreciate it. @Happy2Help
Make sure you can get the grades needed in those classes. They can and will rescind you for breaking your contract even if it is just a summer course.
Oh damn, will most def try my best to prepare for everything within the upcoming year, thank you for the heads up man! @luckie1367
I personally would not risk that plan, taking the Chem course in summer. I think you should take fall/spring to be competitive.
You can take the class at a different CC where there may be a better prof. Just be sure it is the right class by using Assist. You can attend more than one CC at a time, as your schedule permits.
True, I’ll definitely try my hardest to find some way to squeeze it in, I would really love to complete as many pre-reqs as I can before I plan on transferring. Thank you and for also answering my first question a while back lol. @lindyk8
@Happy2Help There are a couple of school districts around me that I can realistically enroll in for classes, one of them has a Chem class/assessment pre-req before I can take Chem 1A, the other district has no pre-req, and has a bunch of other nearby schools within it, including the CC I’m talking about in my first post. Most of the classes for Chem 1A this upcoming fall I can’t even entertain of enrolling in because for the most part I’m already taking essential classes during these time slots; it’s looking extremely dim that I will have a great professor this Fall if I take 1A, at this point I’m fine with that though. I plan on attending two CCs this Fall and I’ll most likely be doing the same for the Spring as well. Assist has been a life saver for planning out courses these past couple of years.
@Happy2Help Hey man, quick question in regards to your second post in this thread. When I update my Fall grades in January, will the UCs then factor those grades in for admission? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question.
Yes I believe they do, not a dumb question!
They do!
@Happy2Help @luckie1367 thank you guys!
