Can I Teach HS Biology with a Biology Minor?

Hello. Im a junior Public Health major with a minor in Biology. I have already completed 10 credits of Chemistry and when I graduate, I will have completed 22 credits of Bio courses for the Biology Minor. For my public health major, I have taken classes such as a Nutrition course, an Environmental and Occupational Health course, and I have taken psychology courses for my psych minor as well. For NJ, the reqs for being a secondary school Biology teacher are to have 30 credits of Biology and/or related bio courses (botany, anatomy, vet. medicine, etc.). It also says to provide a description of the course if it is not from the Bio department, and the final determination as to which courses will be counted towards the Biology subject matter is based on professional and content standards found in the NJ Licensing Code (which didn’t help me much). Do you think the 10 credits of Chemistry or my other courses would count towards the 30 credit requirement? If so, I would be ecstatic lol because I would really love to go into teaching Bio on the high school level.

how does NJ hire teachers? by county? I recommend you contact individual counties (probably a few that you would be interested in teaching in) and ask directly. I would not assume that Chemistry is “bio related”

Its not just the coursework needed, it’s also the credential with the teaching practicum that is needed for a Bio class…
