Can I transfer to a 4 year college out of state from CC with a GED?

Hello! I’ve suffered with cluster headaches for the entirety of my highschool life, resulting in me having to take online classes. when I made the switch to online classes 4 years ago, I made an awful mistake of not managing my time well and I ended up falling very far behind in classes.

My headaches are cleared up since then and I finally have aspirations that make me hopeful for my future. I’m planning on taking a GED, achieving an associate’s at CVCC (my local community college), then being grandfathered into JMU from there to major in psych and attend the PA program once I get my bachelor’s.

However, my gf is attending IUP and I’d really like to know if there’s any chance I could transfer credits from CVCC to there with a GED. I’ve not been able to find the answer to this on their website.

When transferring out of your state system:

  1. It may take longer for the receiving college to evaluate your transfer credits
  2. The price jump for out-of-state tuition may make this a very expensive choice

But other than that, it’s possible. At least some of your credits will transfer, and your GED will not hold you back assuming that your community college record is academically competitive for the schools you are applying to.
