I'm trying to figure out if I can transfer as a soph instead of Junior or senior. The UC website says they accept lower division transfers, but when I look at the requirements listed from the specific UC's, its not real consistent. Anyone know if I can, and to what schools, and what application I would need to use? (I know Im waaaaay late)

It depends on what school and for what major. Click this link and click on the school to the left to see what majors are opened and closed for sophomore transfer.

If the campus/program is accepting lower division transfers, file the transfer application and select the sophomore transfer option.

I want to transfer to UC Davis. How difficult is it to change majors once you are accepted? I am a biology major, but from what i understand it is closed.

Keep in mind that lower-division transfer applications are put in a different pool from upper-division transfers, and have a much lower acceptance rate.

why do they make it so difficult to transfer as a sophmore. I am also hoping for UCLA. I know UCSD is closed for sophmores , but UCD and UCLA are my top choices. It is a much lower acceptance rate, but i was hoping i would have an in with a 4.0 GPA. ( i am also out of state... )

If I were you, I'd suck it up and wait a year because the chances of getting into a school as a junior would be a lot easier.

You may even be able to complete some Honors Courses to get into UCLA, or if you're really big on coming to CA, I would move to CA, attend a community college within the service area of UCD or UCLA and then transfer with a 4.0 and half of my CC credits from a California Community College.

A big step, but it might be well worth it.

I think that the schools don't accept many sophomore transfers because they're built around maximizing their upper division classes, letting students complete their GEs and pre-reqs in cheaper regional colleges.

killer22 offers some good advice.

UCLA does not, as far as I know, accept soph transfers. You'll have to apply as a junior.

Please contact the College of Biological Sciences to discuss the possibility of changing majors. I believe they have certain requirements that need to be met before changing your major and you need to make sure as a transfer student you will have enough time to complete these requirements. I apologize if I’m incorrect.

Also, remember that you must be UC eligible as a freshman applicant to be considered as a lower division transfer student. This includes the ACT plus writing/SAT reasoning and SAT Subject exams, depending on the year you graduated high school.
