Hi all, I have a quick question. I am currently attending a community college. I have earned 35 transferrable credits so far. I graduated from high school and had an average of 3.0. I was wondering would it be possible for me to apply for next year semester to go to san jose state university and finish my classes there ? Some people tell me you need 60 credits to transfer but some people say you just need the GE requirements and the major requirements and you can transfer. I was wondering if I could transfer in as a freshmen with my high school and college grades and continue going to school there?

thanks for the help.

[CSUMentor - Plan for College - Transfer Students - Lower-Division Transfer Requirements](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU) says that you can transfer to CSU as a lower division student with fewer than 60 semester units, but “some CSU campuses do not admit lower-division transfer students.”

[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1372.html) says that “SJSU no longer admits lower division transfers.”

However, if you will have completed 60 semester units by the time you will enter a CSU, you will be applying as an upper division transfer. So if you have 35 semester units now, and take normal full time course loads this spring and next fall (15 units each semester), you can apply as an upper division transfer for spring 2013 or fall 2013 (though spring may be more difficult to get admitted to than fall).

hey thanks for the help ! I was wondering also, i have 35 credits so far but i need 60 to transfer. I calculated the rest of my GE and Major requirements classes and i will have 42 credits. What classes would i be able to take for the rest of the 18 credits ? Can i use my credits i took in high school for three years of foreign language ? Thanks

You can take any transferable courses for the rest of the 18 units. If you have AP credit, check with SJSU to see about its applicability to the 60 unit minimum. High school courses would not normally count, unless they were dual enrollment college courses, or you got credit for an AP test. However, foreign language in high school may allow you to place into a more advanced foreign language course in college if you choose to continue.

You may want to take micro and macro economics courses if you have not already taken them, as economics knowledge is generally useful. A statistics course would also be generally useful to understand how statistics is used (and misused or misunderstood) in many social studies (economics and political) contexts. A logic course from the philosophy department may also be useful to help your logical thinking skills if you are not in a math-intensive major.
