Hi everyone, I was wondering if you think Columbia would allow me to send my application this late. My mother died recently and I only applied to a couple schools before her death and afterwards, I was honestly so depressed I didn't even want to think about schools. Columbia is perfect for me and I think I have a good shot of getting in. The thing is, it's a month late. If I called/emailed the admissions people, do you think they would understand? Thanks.

I don’t think so. The policies are pretty strict, and I submitted my RD application in October (given though that I applied ED to another school at the same time though ). I’m sorry for your mothers loss and I understand how hard it is on you, but this late, I doubt they will accept it, but hopefully I’m wrong!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine being in your position.

It can never hurt to just call and explain your situation.
You might also think about taking a gap year or ging to CC first and transferring.

Call admissions tomorrow - what do you have to lose? If you don’t call, you will never know.

Have your High School college counselor contact your regional admissions officer and explain the situation. I think you have a better chance if the initial contact comes from a school official who can verify your situation.

Good Luck.

I also think you should call. You’ll never know unless you try. And I think I know how you feel…

Good luck!!

I’m so sorry about your mother. It can’t hurt to contact the adcom, and as goodchoices said, you should get a guidance counselor/school official to verify your situation too.

Best of luck.
