Can i used my dads address for in state tuition?

So Im currently a junior in HS in California. My dad lives in Hawaii. I do live with him for 1/4th of the year, and he’s lived there for almost 4 years now.

It almost time to start applying for colleges, and while i’m definitely going to apply to some UC’s, it’d be nice to live closer to my dad. In state tuition there is $9,000 but out of state is $30,000, which is about as much as a UC with out the prestige.

So could I put his address down and get in state tuition since he has 25% custody and has lived there for 4 years?

Another question is (I don’t know the answer) what if you decide not to go to Hawaii? What if you decide to go to a UC, but you wrote down your dad’s address in Hawaii? Would you still qualify for in state for California?

Again, I don’t know the answer, but this got me thinking. For someone knows the answe, please tag me in your answer because now I’m curious :stuck_out_tongue:

Just using your Dad’s address is not enough to establish residency.
