BTW, I GRADUATED A YEAR EARLY FROM HIGH SCHOOL…I HAD TO DO SOME THINGS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT IN THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS, IN TERMS OF EXTRA ESSAYS ON REASONS FOR GRADUATING EARLY, DEMONSTRATING MATURITY, AND LOADS OF DEMONSTRATED INTESEST.

Damn…i thought graduating early was just a myth =\

Hey timmao1989 - what is this ‘guaranteed transfer’ business about?

Well I was a slacker my first two years so here it goes (watch your eyes!)

Applied: UVM, UNH, UMass Amherst, Roger Williams, Colorado Springs, CU - Boulder, U of Denver

GPA: 3 (on the 4 scale)
SAT1’s: 1110 (w/o writing - never really counted that section)
SAT2’s: 600 on Math2
AP’s: 5 on Calc AB, 4 on Stat, 4 on USGov&Pol, 4 on USHist
EC’s: Worked at a local food chain for three years - 28 hours a week during school. Employee of the month and a Certified Trainer (supervisor). Swimming director at an over night camp during the summer. Community service for my church.

Accepted: Roger Williams, Colorado Springs, CU - Boulder
Waitlisted: UVM, UMass Amherst, U of Denver
Rejected: UNH

Waitlist results: UVM said no, got into U of Denver, UMass Amherst said I’m accepted starting the second semester of this upcoming school year (note: live in MA)

Attending the University of Denver. I think the only reason I got in is because I wrote my college essay on how my grandfather’s death affected my schooling.

V. useful thread.

For the record, I took an unconventional route and wrote my personal statement about when I was expelled in 7th grade. I think that might have helped.

Wow Physics08, did you have time to do anything except orchestra and science projects? Your accomplishments are impressive!

I wrote my essay on my experience living in NYC during the 9/11 attacks. As it was only my second day of school in the city after moving from Ohio it led me to increasingly follow issues in current events. I had already developed an interest in experiencing cultural difference through international travel. But my following of the news led me to try to understand some of today’s largest debates about how cultural and religious extremism has founded itself as the ultimate international struggle of the 21st century. What is scary to realize is that the stereotypical portrayal of religious extremism is of groups like the Taliban of Islamic religion. However, extremism takes it’s form in all religions, including Christianity in America, and our struggle is to rediscover the path towards moderation, or at least a distinct seperation of church and state.

I also had great teacher recs., and an interview for George Washington which I think helped in getting me accepted.

This thread makes me cry >_<

would you mind including any merit scholarship info? i’m looking at syracuse (act:31, sat: 1860) but im afraid i wont be able to afford it.

So wait, you didn’t get into Washington University, but you got into MIT and Yale?

Oops, that question was directed to Physics08.

wow it’s been a while since i checked this thread.
Ikf725: Thanks! Orchestra was mainly the biggest activity because I was in a bunch of musical performing groups and each had long hours of rehearsals and performances. Plus, I was doing a lot of solo music so the week can get pretty hectic.

catsushi: yeah that can sometimes happen. Not to be cocky but I suspect it’s yield protection aka Tufts Syndrome where a school purposely waitlists due to lack of an applicant’s interest to actually attending once accepted. But who knows, maybe WashU didn’t need another violinist/researcher although I don’t think I would have gone there over MIT/Stanford/Caltech/Yale either way.

So wait, you didn’t get into Washington University, but you got into MIT and Yale?
