Can professors see your academic record?

Do they have access to your high school transcript?

No.

No, they don’t, and they would have no interest in it anyway.

No, we can’t see it. However, as someone who teaches many intro math courses, I would have interest in seeing it to find out their math background, if I could.

With the information system my college uses, I have access to High School GPA and all standardized test scores. The HS record is not broken down into courses. A lot of schools use the same information system.

Where I work, I can see enrolled students’ SAT/ACT scores, and their college transcript, but not their high school record. I cannot see financial aid information, student life/dorm information, or personal information beyond an address/phone/email. And there’s your ID picture (sorry about that!).

I can access scanned high school transcripts, college transcripts for transfers, and SAT scores where I work, if I cared to. I’m too busy and have too many students to bother, and it’s not relevant. I can also access FERPA info (which i sometimes have to do if parents call) and your home address/phone. But I can’t access fin aid info.

I wish students knew this. First two weeks of school I use those pix to learn names and faces. But 1/3 of those pix look nothing like you because your photo is a lie.

You tied your hair in a way you never will again. You cut or dyed your hair the day after the pic. You didn’t wear the glasses you always wear. You started a beard the day after the pic. You chose not to get photographed in the ball cap you always wear. You changed your gender (I’m not joking). You’re a sophomore now and your hair is 16 inches longer than it was last year.

I want to learn your name. I want to be the friendly professor that people rave about in the movies. Please help me.
