I live in VA and i’m applying to VA schools. GPA of 3.9469 weighted I think 3.6 or 7 unweighted (Not sure). I rank 67 out of 285. 4 AP classes. 3 advanced. I have volunteered for about 80 hours at a hospital, library, and carnival combined. I’m planning to join 3 honor society’s. Already in Latin honor society. I’m president of international club. Treasurer of Psychology club. and member of anime club. I play no sports whatsoever. Current highest SAT score of 1690. 1720 superscored. Colleges I’m planing to apply to:
University of Virginia
William and Mary
James Madison University
George Mason University
Virginia Commonwealth University
University of Richmond
Christopher Newport University.
ALSO, I plan (meaning I will find a way no matter what) to get into medicals school, so i’m looking towards pre-med reputations. And if it makes a difference, I’m Indian, (Asian)
Spend your time getting top grades…are you retaking the SAT?
You have a good chance of acceptance at some of those schools…but not UVA or William and Mary. I would think University of Richmond would be a reach as well.
I took the Sat 4 times already. I suck at standardized tests even after studying, and taking another one would be worthless.
Well…think long and hard about medical school. First you have to take the MCAT which is. Doozie of a standardized test. In addition, there are tests throughout medical school that you must pass to progress to the next level.
If standardized tests are not your thing, how will you do the MCAT?
Even so…I think you will get accepted at VCU, Christopher Newport, and probably George Mason. Maybe on James Madison.
The others are reaches for you at this time.
What is your math/CR SAT total?
With regard to which school with medical school aspirations? Really…do very well wherever you matriculate. Get tippy top grades…especially on the prerequisite courses for medical school. Get a high MCAT score. Those are what will increase your chances of medical school acceptances…not the name of your undergrad school.
Thank you, and I probably should rephrase what I said. I don’t suck and standardized tests, but I suck at math and English which is what the SAT is. I’m great at science, and I’m really hoping to get into John Hopkins (I hope they like weird people for med school). And also, I think the college prepares you for the MCAT, whereas high schools just teach according to state tests. SOL’s in VA.
The new MCAT has humanities sections as well, i believe.
Right now, focus on undergrad. You will have a better idea of where you might apply to medical school as time goes on.
College does NOT prepare you for the MCAT. Not at all.
the MCAT is one of the most difficult tests there is. It appears that you do poorly on the SAT because either you run out of time or you’re not understanding the questions.
Don’t focus on any particular med school.
Do the best you can as an undergrad, and you’ll likely know within the first year or two whether you’re med school material.
