Can someone explain this math requirement for me?

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • two quarters of coursework equivalent to UCI’s MATH 2A - MATH 2B, or

one year of coursework equivalent to other major-related math
    courses is acceptable, and

Due to me being sloppy and not checking AP score transferability, I only have Math 2B done as a prereq instead of 2A & 2B (I did 1B, 1C, and 1D at my CC, but not 1A). However, I took math classes that articulated to ICS 6D and Math 3A, so would those two cover the “coursework equivalent to other major-related math courses”? I’m a little nervous that me not following the exact recommended math sequence will void my TAG.

I’ll contact UCI of course, but I just wanted to see what you guys know as well.

Breaking sequence refers to deviating from the course sequence that is outlined by the college who offers the courses. Meaning if the requirement at the university is two years of Spanish, but a CC student tests out of Spanish 101 and jumps straight into Spanish 102 then they have not broken the sequence. The exception to this rule would be subjects which are often framed as sequential yet aren’t truly sequential, such as English.

It would be absurd for them consider this a negative given the amount of Calculus courses that you have taken after the fact, but it does not hurt to get confirmation.

You should be fine, basically you had to take 2A+2B or substitute more advanced math-major courses.

Thanks, I was reading through the previous UCI transfer threads, saw a lot of high GPA folks get rejected, and started second guessing myself. Glad that it shouldn’t be an issue!

Yes since you took linear algebra and discrete math you’ll satisfy the second part of the math requirement. Honestly, the fact that you took calc 2 and 3 is enough proof for them not to worry about the fact that you never took calc 1 at CC. You’ll be fine in that regard.
