Is grade deflation really as prevalent at William and Mary as everyone says it is?
How does this affect grad/law school admissions?

I've heard a lottt of varying answers on this one.

Well, to compare it with UVA, the GPA profiles are near identical. How hard students work for those grades is another matter.

For graduate placement, W&M is considered one of the best schools. For example, W&M has the highest law and med school acceptance rate of all public schools according to data posted on the CC College Search Section. And besides, for law school admission, I believe they weight your GPA and LSAT against all others taking the exam from your school so grade deflation wouldn’t really be an issue.

W&M has excellent placement into graduate and law schools.

You will earn your A’s at W&M.

I think it also depends on the department. Just as at any other school, there are some departments that are known for being tougher on grades than others. Note however, that the top 10% of W&M students have a 3.7-ish or higher so clearly earning high grades is doable. W&M also will not admit any student who is not capable of doing well at W&M. Remember also, that 4.0s are very prevalent at high school and not very prevalent (nor realistic) once you get to college.
