The problem: Grade Deflation at W&M

Ok, I have heard WAYYYYY too much about this and it's starting to worry me a bit. People say that the average GPA is a 2.7, and you still would have to work your behind off to get to anywhere near that 2.7 :( ...Grad schools do look at undergrad GPA in determining admissions, and so the grade deflation at W&M could affected my chances at a good grad school for MBA. On the other hand, the grade inflation at Vtech and UVA is alot more beneficial to those who want to attend grad school. Supposedly UVA's GPA average is a 4.04...while at Vtech it's around 3.8.

Any thoughts from current W&M students? parents with college experiences? other students?

Thanks alot!

LOL - LOL

UVA's average GPA is NOWHERE NEAR 4.0 - same with VT!

And W&M's is higher than 2.7. In fact, per www.gradeinflation.com, UVA and W&M have approximately the same average GPA...about 3.1-3.2. Seriously, where did you hear that the average GPA at UVA was over 4.0? LOL.

That's the common data set number for admitted students, which isn't accurate in its own. Needless to say, WM is notorious for grade deflation, there are professors who have taught at Northwestern, Wharton, UVa, etc etc and will tell you that the curriculum at WM is more intense. You cannot compare average GPAs at undergrad no matter how hard you try, thus discrediting any inflation statistics. The avg freshman GPA is around 2.7. That said, many professors will write on Recs that they have taught at such and such institutions, and compared to such and such schools, An A at them would merit a B at William and Mary, etc.
