I have already applied to colleges but I am worried. In the additional information section, I elaborated on one of the activities listed in the activity section. I thought it would be helpful for the colleges to know more about me and what I did. However, right now I am worried if it was difficult to understand or sounded too overblown. ***All of the information I wrote down there is legitimate though. Thank you so much!!!
someone reading over the additional information section of your application does nothing to help. you’ll receive decisions in two weeks or so. try not to worry. i’m 99.999% sure you won’t be rejected because of the way you worded an optional section of your application.
@kalons that is true. thank you so much for the reply. I will try not to worry too much. I am a transfer applicant and my decisions will be out in May-June hahaha. Long wait! Bu thank you again
@Boroboro no problem! try not to worry. you’ve done all you can do. the waiting is the hardest part. i’ll be rooting for you! don’t be afraid to update me on how things go.
@kalons Would you consider it advisable, though, to expand on activities in the Additional Info section?
My kids used some concise bullets in additional info on some of their activities. For example, creating an activity called “Music”. Then “See Additional Info”” in the description. Then in the Add’l Info section, a header that said Activities - Music. And bullets underneath, like:
- Clarinet, 4 years Wilson High Symphony and Marching band. Section lead 11-12.
- Community Theater Pit Orchestra - 4 musicals (10-12)
- All State Band - 11
- Gave lessons to middle school students (10-12)
Do not write another essay. My kids chose to bullet related awards in this way, too — it seemed more logical for admissions when reading the application to have the related awards with the other activity items. As long as they are in the app somewhere, admissions does not care which section they are in.
My D used it to further explain her research - not specific information about the research itself but general information about it since there isn’t anywhere in the Common App to say much about research.
Back at my previous university, I was an activity coordinator. I organized events that bring together over 2000 kids, forming connections and friendships. I elaborated on that by listing the events down and concluding it with what those 2000+ students got and what I have learned. Idk if thats a good idea though but I have already submitted my application haha
