I'm not exactly a good student. I have a 2.7 GPA, and I don't take any AP or Honor classes. I don't belong to any clubs or sports, but I will soon. I'm in my sophmore year and I had around a 2.8 last year. I'm having trouble with Spanish I believe it or not. Should I drop it to take Latin I or should I keep taking it? What colleges should I aim for?

Latin is even more difficult than Spanish. You are still a sophomore this year and things can change drastically for good or bad over the next couple of years. I suggest you pull your grades as much as possible, study for the SATs, and come back near the end of the year in regards to your college options. Also, find 1-3 activities you enjoy or something and please, get as much help with Spanish becase at many colleges, 3 years of foreign language is almost or is a mandate.

I think you should talk to your school counselor.

should I take 2 years of spanish then 1 year of Latin in my senior year or should I just stick with Spanish throughout my high school career?

When I was in middle school I struggled to get D's in German. I am very mediocre at foreign language.

No. Stick with the same language.

All schools want you to spend all your time in one language, unless, of course, you take three-four years in two languages. LOL

Seriously, you should talk to your counselor. Perhaps you could develop a good relationship now while you are long that will help pay off in the long run.

No, you should stick with it, primarily because you might get better. You may be mediocre at languages because you are not approaching them in the correct manner. And yes, you need to find an outlet for something else that you might enjoy...studying until you break up is no way to spend high school life.
Finally, you have a GPA that has room, since you will not be applying to any selective colleges, so you can afford to take risks.

Are colleges interested in part time jobs during the summer etc.?

Sure. Of course. Don't rule it out. Having a part-time job doesn't make you any less than someone who attended a summer enrichment program. Both options show that you commited a certain amount of time to an activity and that you have interests or circumstances that you might wish to take care of. It is better than doing nothing.

Anything that you truly love is good. Don't do anything that doesn't appeal to you.
