Hi, I'm a freshman in high school!

I recently moved to United States, so I don't know much about college system. I need any help possible. Right now, I have a GPA of 4.0 out of 4.0, class rank of 3 out of 500 students. I'm wishing to attend Ivy League college, even though I'm not quite sure which subject I will be majoring. I currently have no sports (planning on joining step team next year). I'm part of Speech Team, MUN, community service, spanish club....

Since I've lived in Mexico, I'm currently taking Spanish 4 and will be taking AP Spanish in my Sophomore year. Should I take another language (French / Latin) starting my junior year? Or, should I take another elective instead of language, such as Newspaper or Yearbook?

I might be able to join Gymnastics. Should I join, or should I do more SAT prep and more clubs instead?

I've heard some people score more than 4.0 GPA. How is that possible?

Are there anything I should prepare right now, to be ready for the college?

Thank you so much, any help will be appreciated!! :)

What colleges want to see is a commitment like taking the same language for four years, since that obviously is not possible for you, I would take whatever you think you will enjoy more. Personally I would take another language just to have languages for four years on your transcript.

Do what you have a passion for, that’s what is important and what will make you stand out against the thousands of ivy league applicants. If gymnastics sounds fun, try it! You’re young and have plenty of time. Of course, the SATs are very important, so study for that, however doing a bunch of genetic clubs is not that interesting. I think gymnastics looks better then ten minimal time commitment clubs on a college app.

There are three ways for a person to have over 4.0, 1)extra credit, this might give someone a 4.1 at most 2) they are on a different scale. Some peoples gpas are out of 5,6,10 or 100. 3) most schools also give a weighted gpa, which shows how rigorous your schedule is. In this system an A is an advanced our AP class is worth 5.0, while and A in a normal class is worth 4.0. If your school doesn’t do weighted, don’t worry many colleges will calculate a weighted for you our just look at your class load.

Relax!!! You’re young and have time. Get good grades, and find things you love doing, then worry about college applications.

Good luck!!!

If you have any questions you can pm me.

you have plenty of time to figure things out. try a bunch of different things and find out what really interests you. for me, i knew i didn’t want to play sports so i tried a bunch of artsy clubs and stuck with what was important to me.

Ohhh oops, too late to edit, I meant generic clubs, doing a whole bunch of genetic related clubs would be awesome.
