Can knowledge be a burden rather than a benefit?

Knowledge is mankind's greatest virtue.Without knowledge there is no difference between a human being and a beast . Knowledge has given us many things without which human life is nearly impossible.

Evolutionary theories suggest that human beings came to survive so many less than forgiving time periods only and only because of our ability to use brain over brawn . Human beings do not possess any physical adaptations that are even comparable to that of other animals such as tigers or chimpanzees. If we can attribute the fact that there are so many of us to anything, we can attribute it to knowledge.

Likewise, some of the basic things that ensure our existence is a result of knowledge. One of the basic necessities of life is food. For a species that is not suited to hunt in the wild, even basic nutrition becomes unattainable without knowledge. Agricultural knowledge is of utmost importance. If our farmers do not know how to sow seeds, how much water is needed for irrigation or what type of manure crops need , a good portion of human beings will have to starve as the agricultural output will not be enough to feed all the mouths in the world.

Similarly, knowledge of the course of rivers and demand for water is necessary if we are to have water to drink. Thus life's basic necessities are assured to us only because of knowledge. As the earth's most successful species we are all slaves to knowledge.
