Hi - we are interested in visiting Vassar the first week in June. Is there anyone who might be able to show us around consistent with the school’s covid and visiting protocols? Any must-see places? Ideas of where to stay and eat? Does anyone have any information about a sailing club at Vassar? Thanks for your help!
Try the website - DaytripperUniversity and they have a travel guide/suggestions for Vassar including restaurants and things to see/do in the area.
Vassar’s graduation ceremony is on Sunday, June 6th. It’s for graduates only (no parents or guests allowed). Suspect that would not be a good day to try to get on campus. At present, they are only allowing visitors to drive through the campus (not allowed to get out and walk around).
If I remember correctly, have heard talk about official tours starting in late June.
Good places to stay: Residence Inn or Homewood Suites in Poughkeepsie. If you like Thai food, Thailicious is excellent.
Vassar does have a sailing club, see

Thanks! I will definitely steer clear of graduation.
My D19 was interested in Vassar and she is a sailor. We visited twice, and had a family friend who was a sophomore at Vassar at the time. We asked about the sailing team at admissions, and also asked our friend, but we never found anyone who knew anything substantial about it, let alone any sailor. D19 eventually got the email of the professor who advised the club. He said that numbers were down because several sailors were doing semesters abroad, and that he was also going to be on sabbatical when D19 would have entered as a freshman.
D loved Vassar, and it still wound up being her second choice because sailing was not an imperative for her in college. The Hudson would be a beautiful place to sail, but I do not think Vassar has a consistent or robust sailing program.
Thanks! It’s also hard to ascertain the status of certain clubs due to covid. Where did you find that had intramural/recreational college sailing? I think my son is leaning away for sailing on a varsity team level in college. Looking for a LAC, generally the more urban the better (he considered Middlebury way too rural but liked UVM location (but not an LAC). Thanks!
