Brown has been my dream school for as long as I can remember, but I know I’d have to be crazy to think I’d be picked for admission when the applicant pool is so massive and self-selecting. I’m trying to find negatives to the university so I won’t be as devastated when I get rejected :’)

Fine positives in the other schools you’ve applied in order to wean yourself of the Brown infatuation.

I distinctly recall sending in my “decline offer” notice to Brown when I matriculated at another Ivy. I couldn’t believe I was in a position to decline the schools that had accepted me. I loved my actual undergrad choice and absolutely believe it was four amazing years of my life. But I honestly believe I would have loved Brown or other schools and would be the same if I had accepted any of the others. Can I honestly say that my college was X percentage better than if I had attended Brown or UMich or one of the others?

But way too often, I see HS students fixate and idealize these colleges without any basis besides anecdotes and TV show depictions. Whatever school finally grants you your diploma, you’ll be fine.

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of my other schools I applied to are also great, and I’m sure I can eventually be happy at any of them…it’s just Brown’s educational philosophy and the environment I got when I sat in on their classes made me love it…plus they’re among the very very very few schools that offers an undergrad degree for the exact concentration I’m interested in plus the opportunity to take a couple of classes at risd while getting a degree in my nonart major seems amazing. idunno, I guess I’ve just been convinced its the best fit for me out of the other schools I applied to and thought maybe I’d feel better even if I heard petty things that students there dislike…

use the search function, definitely been discussed before.

um, don’t think about that right now. you’ll put yourself through unneeded misery if you do in fact get in, and you’ll put yourself through exaggerated misery if you don’t.

Misery how? the only negatives I could find when searching the older threads were kindof petty…at this point I’m absolutely positive I won’t get in, so I think this’ll help?

The reasons you gave for choosing Brown sound like excellent ones. If you articulated these reasons on your application and/or in your interview, it could give your chances a boost.

It’s cold and windy in Providence in the winter.

hitmeister–I did. I know my stats are below par though…I know the people in the past years at my high school who went to brown. Even though they’re in love with it now, they were all kids who dreamed of harvard or princeton and were initially crushed when they had to “settle” for Brown…I know Brown takes interest into account, but based on what I’ve seen at my school…other factors probably are much more important
bookmouse–why thank you. I’ll remember that!

because it’s not a decision you know if you need to make yet
