Can’t Decide- Tulane or UDel

I’ve been accepted to both universities but am having trouble choosing which one to transfer to. I am a mathematics major and know both schools would be ideal for me, the only problem is distance. I live two hours away from UDel but twenty hours from Tulane. Normally I wouldn’t even consider a school this far away but they had a free application fee so I thought why not try…and I got in! I’m surprised seeing that it’s roughly a 30% acceptance rate, which is making this choice difficult. Do I go to UDel because it’s close or do I go to Tulane because it’s a really good school? Any advice would be helpful!

I transferred to Tulane last semester! Obviously, I’m a bit biased, but if you have any questions about what it’s like to be a transfer student at Tulane, let me know.

Thank you! Not too much comes to mind at the moment but I am curious about how northerners adjust? I’m from New Jersey so I’m sure it would be a huge difference. Also I’ve read some schools in the south tend to give students from up north a hard time, I’m hoping that’s not the case for Tulane though!

I’m actually from the south, but I know that most of Tulane’s students come from all over the nation and some other countries, too. I’ve attended two universities in New Orleans now, and I’ve never heard of a student having an issue with the school because they’re from another part of the country. There’s definitely not a “North vs South” beef permeating any campus, haha!

All of my friends who are northerners love Tulane, and they especially love the weather in New Orleans. If it helps any, I would point out that New Orleans doesn’t fit into the mold of the stereotypical south. It’s possibly the most welcoming city in the south, for that matter. Hope that helped!

Yes it did help, thank you so much!

I would seize the opportunity to go to Tulane. It is a great, unique school where you will meet people from all over the country and the world. New Orleans is one of a kind, and you will get to know it intermittently through the culture of community service that permeates the student experience at Tulane. Academics are also top notch, and the school really encourages students to put together courses from different subject areas to weave a highly interdisciplinary focus to their coursework.

U of Delaware is also a great school. It has all the heft of a state flagship and has been attracting good students from NY, NJ, PA and DE for generations. Congratulations on your choices. You really can’t go wrong!

Thank you so much for your insight, it’s really helps!
