Can They Change the Amount of Money I Got?

Okay, so a month or so ago, I filled out one of those verification of my fafsa and sent it to collegeboard. I'm pretty sure the amount that my parents had on their tax return corresponded with the fafsa application we did earlier this year. However, if it somehow does look different to them, can they change my grant money and give me less money than before? Can someone explain to be how this works.

If the school finds a mistake on FAFSA they are required by law to correct it. If the correction to FAFSA changes your EFC then it will affect your financial aid. How and how much it affects your aid depends on how and how much your EFC changes.

If you completed the FAFSA correctly then you should have nothing to worry about. We have been verified several times without any problem.

I don’t understand about sending a verification form to College Board. Are you sure you were supposed to send it there?

I didn’t even notice that part!

yeah, the letter said to send it to college board. then college board sent me a letter telling me the materials I should send them.

Are you talking about IDOC? Some colleges use the College Board’s IDOC service to gather their info for them.

And to answer your question… colleges can reduce your financial aid if the figures are off and they can reduce your financial aid if their previous offer wasn’t final (and it probably wasn’t until they receive any verification info).

I even know of a school that recalculated the aid of students (I don’t know if all or some) halfway through 2008-2009 and it wasn’t that the students’ info had changed.

When do I know if they changed my aid?

Call, check online, wait for letter…(how would people here be expected to know that?)

You can also check your FAFSA application to see if the college has made any changes to your FAFSA and double-check the figures you submitted on the original FAFSA.
