Can transfers study abroad?

I have been admitted for spring transfer (rising sophomore), meaning I will have a max of 5 semesters at Brown. There is, however, a yearlong study abroad program that I am interested in for junior year. If I do this, and therefore only spend 3 semesters in Providence, will this not fulfill the brown requirement of being a Brown student for 2+ years? I would still be able to complete my concentration, but might not have the minimum number of credits taken at Brown.

bump.......

I'm not sure in that case. I was a junior transfer and found out that while I could study abroad it would not count for credit since I had already transferred the max number of credits. That was my catch. I'm not sure about the 2 years at Brown thing as I didn't even get far enough to ask questions about that.

Would you be able to counter those missed credits by participating in summer session or would you have to go for an extra semester?

He could do summer sessions to get the credit if he doesn’t want to take the extra semester, but, considering that money isn’t a huge, huge issue and that you REALLY want/must do this, I would just take the extra semester, just to make sure that this 2 year requirement is filled. After my first year there, my will to study abroad was significantly lessened because I couldn’t imagine not spending one of my 8 semesters away from Providence.

Your wording is confusing here… does this mean you DO want to spend a semester away, or you DONT?

^He doesn’t. He meant his “will” (his desire) to study abroad was lessened.

You have to have 15 classes at Brown over a minimum of four semesters to get a Brown degree, from my understanding. It’s possible that two summer sessions at Brown would help get rid of the one semester, however, that’d probably be as costly as just staying at Brown one more semester and it would also probably be less enriching.
