senior year I am taking to take 3 AP classes ( english, law and gov't, and, bio)
Now, i was wondering if i can get into UCI? thanks if you can help

extra info: asian american, middle class, 1st generation

possibly. I’m assuming you have mostly As and some Bs throughout your high school career. Your stats are okay. Your personal statement would most likely be the determining factor.

Thanks a lot! what killed my GPA was sophmore year 1st semester during which I has 2 Cs. I think I have a valid reason and it being that during sophmore year my parents had rented a store and I had to work during 1st semester while my brother worked 2nd semester…do u think this is a valid excuse?

Try taking the ACT, if you can. But with your SAT score, its definitely a toss-up and will probably depend on your personal statement.

As for your excuse for your 2 C’s in sophomore year, I don’t think it’ll fly for the adcom’s. Maybe if you elaborate on what kind of work it was, and how it prevented you from doing HW or studying. Depending on the type of work, many students are still able to do schoolwork at the workplace.

But by all means, give it your best shot. I wouldn’t really be surprised if you got accepted, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you were denied as well. I hope that makes sense?

Haha Thanks. are personal statements like essays that you submit with your application or are they something completely different? thanks. i know im asking alot of questions and am extremely sorry but iam in need of help.

I’m not sure what you mean by time constraints, since there are two or three(don’t remember) more chances for you to take the SAT. ACT is the best advice for anyone and everyone should take it if they can, it will almost always increase your score. As for your dad, just say you did get paid, it will make you look better and worst case scenario, which never really happens, is they’re going to ask your dad, in which case I’m sure you can get your own father to answer that you did get paid since they prefer that you did get paid.

Dont be too worried about your SAT score. I know plenty of people who got accepted to Irvine with a score less than 1500. It was because of their grades and ECs that helped get them in. I think they also wrote a really good personal narratives.

get in by applying to an unimpacted major. Do well and switch majors later. If I had to guess as to what an unimpacted major was, I couldn’t be so sure. I think most of engineering and comp science is. not sure about bio. I think econ is beginning to get a little crowded, though quantitative econ seems fine.

Iam surely gonna take the ACT and see how that turns out. @Chikara… wow thanks for making me feel a lot better:) God bless you @Xelink… Iam thinking about political science:) or Bio…i know they are 2 completely different fields but iam decent in both so im keeping my options open

Sorry, but I have no idea what Chikara is talking about. There are very, very few people getting into UCI with less than a 1500 on the sat. I mean, there might be like a couple every year out of the 44,000 applicants, but they’re the exception.

If you can get your score into the 1900 range, you have a really good chance. Otherwise, you have an ok (but not great) chance.

Apply for the major that you want, impacted or not. Just make sure you set your alternative major as an unimpacted major. I know a ton of people who did not get in as their primary, but were accepted as alternative majors.

Thanks junshik… I think im going to chose something within the philosophy spectrum as my alternative major. Ive heard its unimpacted and something useful in terms of studying Law:) thanks a lot by the way
