do I have a chance at irvine?

I'm just seeing if I should even send an application to uci

gpa: 3.2 weighted (my dad died in the beginning of junior year so it really screwed up my gpa)
SAT: 1870 math2c : 700 ushistory : 630
ecs : band,swim team
I'm asian/male and I'm instate
if you know enough about the other UCs chance me for those if you can as well.

To answer your question, yes you have a chance imo, as long as you explain your unfortunate circumstances junior year(deeply sorry for your loss).

That is a serious event, and it definitely explains your GPA.

Of course send an app to UCI. Send one to SD LA and CAL while you are at it. You never know until you try, right? :]

Yes. Sorry about your dad but I think that’s your golden ticket in. Your SATs are decent. Just write the essays as best as you can. You should definitely send in an application to any school you’re interested in. You never know.

You have to explain all that in your essay.

Yea, explain that in your essay but dont just say it in your resume, otherwise it can be the my “grandmother past away” story. Talk about how you overcome it and how it made you grow to be a stronger person. They want to see some sort of leadership/growth.

so do you think I should write both prompts about it?

I do not know exactly how your personal circumstances are factored in, but your gpa is well below the avg gpa of 4.01 at UC Irvine. Your SAT scores are only avg for for Irvine and will not make up for your gpa. If you really want to attend a UC I suggest that you strongly consider applying to UC Santa Cruz and even possibly UC Riverside and UC Merced. You stand a much better chance of being admitted to one of these UCs.

I dont think you should worry too much about your SAT score. UCI accepts many people below a score of 1800. In fact, I got admitted with a score much lower along with my other friends. However, our GPA was much higher than a 3.2. With the reason that you have, you can easily talk about how it affected your GPA in ONE of your prompts. Don’t worry, you still have a chance at UCI!

Do the UCs receive the first semester grades for senior year or take them into consideration? because I have 5 As and 1 B with 4 UC weighted classes right now so maybe that would prove to them that I am actually capable of getting a higher gpa.

Yes. They get your complete high school transcript in the end. They will not take senior grades into consideration. However, its still important to not slack off as if you fall below their expectations you might have your admission retracted.

Like previously stated, use your tragedy to your advantage. Good luck.
