What do you guys think?

Yes, but depends on how good your essays are.

I am applying to Chemical Engineering. Is that more of a reach?

Your GPA is right in the middle 50%, and your test scores are just above. UW is just selective enough, and considers enough other factors that it might be bit of a stretch to call it a “safety”, but your chances look really good. While ChemE does offer direct admit, that isn’t the only way to get into that major.

BTW, with the application deadline being December 15th, will the December SAT get scores to UW in time?

Yes, UW accepts December scores if I select them as a recipient with registration (which I still have time to do).

So how do I look for direct admit? That’s really what I’m going for because I know that keeping my GPA high will be harder in college than it is in high school.

You don’t have to do an extra application to apply for direct admit. Just make sure you put ChemE as your intended major! Good luck! :)

My main question at this point is do I have a good shot at being a direct admit? Or am I likely to just be admitted to “undecided engineering” (I’m not sure exactly what it is called)?

Any thoughts?

I don’t think you would be a shoe-in for direct admit, but that doesn’t mean you should discount it as a possibility. I know this doesn’t help much, but it really does seem like it would make sense either if you didn’t get direct admit OR if you did.

I just visited UW last week and talked to a girl from the chemical engineering department. She said that chemE doesn’t accept as many direct admits as other engineering departments (usually 3 people per year.) So you have to pretty much be perfect to be directly admitted. I don’t think you should be worried though, at least 95% of chemE majors aren’t directly admitted and as long as you get good grades in your freshman and sophomore year courses you should be able to get in to the department later on.

Don’t be worried, but remember that UW does reject quite a few of their applicants.

Any more opinions? :)
