Can we choose our type of housing freshman year?

Can we choose whether we want a double with a private bathroom or are we automatically put where ever freshman will live?
Here are room rates:

If my parents pay $10,928 then will I be guaranteed a double with a private bathroom or will I have a chance of ending up with any on the list under Room Type 3?
I do NOT want a communal bathroom! Do freshman have any say in housing arrangements?

The only way you can guarantee yourself a private bathroom is if you choose to live in Northwood. Just about all of the dorms that have private bathrooms are reserved for sophomores and upperclassmen. So I hate to break it to you but you will just about certainly not have a private bathroom.

Remember that all the other parents are also paying $10,928 too
So it’s luck of the draw.

Depending upon how high on your list a private bathroom is there may be better school choices than Michigan. That said, communal bathrooms still offer some privacy and the upside is someone else has to do the cleaning! My daughter feels the same way you do despite my assurances, so you are far from alone.

Baites has suite style bathrooms.

What is the big fuss over communal bathrooms? Seriously. It’s a bathroom. Walk in, go to the stall, …, wash hands, leave. It’s cleaned for you and all. What is the issue with this? I had never even thought about this until I’ve seen a few people lament about them on CC. It’s not like you’ve never used a public bathroom before.

^ I think it’s the fact that you shower with nothing but a curtain between you and everyone else. Believe it or not, many people value privacy!

^You’re gonna have to get over it. It’s college, you need to learn to be around people all the time.

No one needs to know who is in the stall and you don’t have to schedule your shower time around your roommates. If you have a private bathroom there may be other people waiting to use it and you are responsible for cleaning it.
