Can We cook in Dorm?

sure.

if you live in a "cooking dorm" then you dont have to get a meal plan.
however, if you live in a regular dorm [non cooking dorm], you have to get the meal plan. there is a kitchen in the basement of each non cooking dorm building... so if you wanna cook, you could.

How do I know if I am in "cooking dorm"?

is the h-quad a "cooking dorm"

As far as I know, the buildings which are all cooking suites are Hand in Tabler, James in H Quad, and Irving in Mendelsohn. If you're in one of those buildings, you've got a kitchen and eating area instead of a common room. Gershwin in Roth has some cooking suites.

However, freshmen have to be on the meal plan regardless of whether they're in a cooking building or not. After your first two semesters, you're free to pass on the meal plan if you have a cooking suite or are in the apartments (which also have kitchens), but are still required to have a meal plan if you don't.

All of the dorms have kitchens in the basement. They vary a lot in cleanliness but are pretty much all useable. The ones in Tabler and H, for example, seem to be pretty recently renovated and are really nice. The ones in Roosevelt that I've seen were pretty gross. But a lot can change over summer renovations, and a lot depends on how good the people in your building are at cleaning up after themselves.

Cooking suites are awesome if you actually plan on using the kitchen! I've got one, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. If you're gonna end up using the oven for storage, it's not worth it, because the kitchen table isn't quite as useful as the normal couches are for hanging out.
